Do you want to build on your beginning conversational skills in Spanish? Do you have a basic knowledge of the language? In this class, we will review the conjugation of –ar, –er, and –ir verbs in the present tense and then move on to study the verb ir, the present tense of stem changing verbs and reflexive verbs. We will practice simple conversations and learn more of the Spanish language and culture in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Prerequisite: a beginning Spanish class or a basic knowledge of Spanish, e.g. knowledge of the consonant and vowel sounds, numbers, noun-adjective agreement, use of the irregular verbs ser, estar, tener, ir, gustar, and the conjugation of regular verbs in the present tense. In this class, you will continue to iron out material covered in topics covered at the intermediate level and focus on using passé composé versus the imperfect tense and implementing object pronouns and adverbs in both simple and compound tenses. You will also further develop the three basic skills of listening, speaking, and reading while learning about French culture and history. Upon completion of this level, students should be able to discuss topics including health, travel, holidays and business using the present, past and immediate and probability with simple future tense. This level continues to emphasize the improvement of oral comprehension and creative expression. This course is appropriate for students who have a solid knowledge of the use of the present tense in Spanish as well as everyday vocabulary. We will review the preterite tense before studying the imperfect tense, and then using both past tenses. There will be plenty of opportunities for oral practice. Would you like to speak Spanish fluently, already have a knowledge base of advanced grammar and a wide vocabulary base but need to practice and improve? In this class students will be required to prepare presentations of a topic of their interest, current events, etc. The group will listen and discuss the content of the presentation, learn new vocabulary and review grammar points. Do you speak Spanish fluently, have a solid knowledge base and strong vocabulary, but don’t have much opportunity to practice or improve? This class will provide ample opportunities for you to practice your Spanish as we read about and discuss current events, short articles and stories. Students at this level will acquire vocabulary on a wide range of topics and will gain proficiency in expressing wants, needs and obligations (devoir, vouloir, pouvoir), build on the present and start the simple passé composé. NCE’s talented foreign language instructors offer private/semi-private lessons online! Each registration allows 1-2 people or 3-4 people to schedule lessons together, in either 4-hour or 10-hour blocks. Open to students of all levels who wish to improve their French, Spanish or Italian language skills. Lesson packs are valid from January 1-June 30, 2026. Notes: There are no refunds or credits for unused time, each scheduled class must be a minimum of 1-hour, and lessons cancelled with less than 24-hours notice will result in forfeiture of the lesson.
