In this one day workshop students will create an adorable, friendly snowman sculpture using wet felting. This beginner-intermediate workshop focuses on felting over a resist, how to conceptualize and create different types of wool vessels, and experiment with different fiber types. Once the vessels are felted, students will then stuff and shape to create a very merry (and rather plump) holiday decoration! The last hour of class will be spent customizing each snowman with a variety of scarves, hats and other wearables. Facial features (like the iconic carrot nose) will be needle felted. While wet felting will be the main focus, students will get a taste of the endless possibilities that come when you combine a variety of fiber arts to create a finished product. A note: Wet felting takes some elbow grease, so come prepared to work! It is a physical (but rewarding) practice. Wool takes about twelve hours to fully dry, so further embellishments to your snowman may have to take place when you get home (for instance, if you wanted to add natural materials - sticks, pinecones, miniature wreaths etc.). These types of additions should be done when the felt is completely dry. This workshop is four hours long, so feel free to bring a snack! A $20 materials fee is payable to the instructor in class.
