Researching one’s ancestry has become one of the country’s favorite hobbies. This class will help you jump-start your genealogy, whether you are brand new to it or have dabbled in it for a couple of years. You will learn what types of records are available (focusing on United States records), what information can be found in them, and where to find these records. We will explore what records can be found on free websites, including vital, census, cemetery, military, and other records. You will need to have an active email address so you can open an account with Familysearch.org. You may bring your own laptop or use one of the classroom computers.

It’s never too early to organize and consolidate all your important life details, but it can be too late! We experience events that change our lives. Do you ever think, What If? What if something happens to you or your spouse, how would your family manage? Could your spouse or family step in and seamlessly manage everything until you are back on your feet? It’s your responsibility to think about this and do something; you need to plan for the unexpected and make sure all your important life details are organized and in one place. It’s time you created your Family Resource File. The instructor will provide guidance--helping you to understand the types or categories of information to include, and the specific details within each category. You will also receive a summary of the information discussed.

Are you searching for a meaningful and rewarding volunteer opportunity, but don’t know where to start? This unique class is geared toward retirees looking to give back, people needing to fulfill required community service hours, and those wanting to volunteer as a way to explore a new career path. The instructor, a seasoned volunteer coordinator for non-profits, will provide insight into how organizations typically determine their volunteer needs, recruit and value their volunteers. You will learn how to interpret volunteer listings to gain a better sense of whether it is a good match for your personal catalysts, commitment ability and your skill-set/personal strengths. Each participant will gain a better understanding of the value they might bring to a non-profit through the creation of a Volunteer AvatarTM. There will be some time dedicated to individual placement guidance.
