Drawing Close to Nature

Adult Education / Create and Make -
Adult Summer 2024

“We need to remember that we are all created creative and can invent new scenarios as frequently as they are needed.” ― Maya Angelou

Spend a morning savoring the wonder of summer flowers, meadows and woodlands, and creating art from your experiences. When you draw closer to nature through art, you also draw closer to yourself. You uncover an innate connectedness that is part of being human and being creative. Engaging our various ways of knowing with, mind, body, and spirit, and incorporating elements of forest bathing and expressive arts, you'll work with simple materials and methods to reflect upon and create from what you are noticing in nature and yourself. Registration includes all supplies and tools for the workshop. No previous art experience is necessary.

Nadine Mazzola

Instructor

Nadine Mazzola (she/her) is author of the award-winning book “Forest Bathing with Your Dog” and a Certified Forest Therapy Guide. She has been featured on PBS Windows to the Wild, ABC’s Chronicle, and in the Boston Globe, Boston Magazine among others. Her book, "Forest Bathing with Your Dog" combines the practice of forest therapy with the practice of walking our dogs, and elevates the depth of both. Nadine does speaking engagements and is the director of New England Nature and Forest Therapy Consulting based in Massachusetts. She is also a trainer/mentor and advisor for the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs (ANFT). Nadine's training includes special knowledge in guiding people of all ages in Shinrin-Yoku, "Forest Bathing," walks and the body of scientific knowledge demonstrating the benefits of spending time in nature as a wellness practice and an effective way to manage stress. She is also trained in Somatics and Embodied Leadership. Her work draws from both of these areas as well as expressive arts. As a breast cancer survivor Nadine has come to know the healing and support that nature can offer us through her own personal wellness journey. She has a business and marketing background and was formerly a world professional pocket billiards player competing on the Women's Professional Billiard Tour. Also an artist, she facilitates Expressive Arts classes at the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden, often incorporating elements of forest therapy throughout. She does work in the business world that includes strategic planning and team building events and workplace wellness programs. Nadine also works with people affected by cancer, students and seniors. A Massachusetts native who loves spending time wandering and exploring in nature and playing the Native American style flute, she is joyous to be sharing forest bathing and creating trails for forest therapy. Nadine is available for consulting, private or group forest bathing half-day and full-day workshops, and speaking engagements.
