Procreate is a powerful and intuitive digital illustration, painting, and animation app designed for iPad and Apple Pencil. It's known for its user-friendly interface, a wide range of brushes and tools, and advanced features like a 64-bit painting engine and 3D painting capabilities, which make it a popular choice for both professional artists and those new to digital art. In this class, you will learn how to work in layers when creating illustrations. This ability enables you to play with ideas, copy and paste, correct images, or delete them easily. No wasting paper or art materials! You will also experiment with the variety of Procreate drawing tools and color palettes, and will likely come away with favorites. Online links for additional Procreate skill development will be provided. Note: Students will need to bring an Apple Pencil and iPad, and to download the Procreate app. Technology details can be found here.
Stephanie Osser is a book & editorial illustrator working in pen & ink, watercolor, gouache, Procreate, Adobe Photoshop, plus clay, and porcelain. She started illustrating research papers for the Anthropology and Wildlife departments, while in graduate school for Ceramics at the University of Montana. Returning to Boston, Stephanie became the staff illustrator for the New England Aquarium and went on to collaborate with art directors and designers on non-fiction children’s books, textbooks, gardening & cookbooks, and editorial illustrations for publications including The New York Times, NY Daily News, and The Boston Globe. Her step-by-step instructional illustration included work for The Muppets Big Book of Crafts by Jim Henson Productions. Alongside illustration, Stephanie created in porcelain and stoneware, for the chance to work in 3D, and taught ceramics at Babson College, including students from Wellesley and Olin Colleges. Participating in international ceramic residencies, she was lucky to work among talented artists in Denmark, Hungary, Canada, and the U.S. Some of her Illustrated Porcelain & Stoneware works are held now in 5 US museum permanent collections. As a Visual Arts Educator, Stephanie teaches Procreate and Arts & Crafts Workshops for children and adults, in school programs and libraries. Her family-friendly workshops combine music appreciation with hands-on art making, introducing participants to great jazz and classical music as they create. Music is central to her life and work. Stephanie is a soprano, singing with The Masterworks Chorale in Boston. She is also a soloist with the Cooper Center Music Makers, specializing in songs by George and Ira Gershwin & Irving Berlin. You’ll often find her sketching at live concerts and operas alongside her husband. Stephanie’s children are pursuing wonderful careers in the Culinary Arts, Green Energy Engineering, and Vocal Performance. Her new website showcases her work and story in more detail: https://www.Stephanie-Osser-Illustrator.com
