Poker is a fun and social activity that you can play your entire life (no ACL tear will stop you from being a high-level performer). Whether you are interested in playing with friends or planning a trip to Vegas (or Everett), you must know the basics. This class will get you there. You will learn a variety of games and the strategies that go along with each type of game. During in-class play, we will focus on understanding not just what is in your hand but also what is happening with others around the table. As your knowledge of the game develops, you will learn when to make a big bet, and when to lay off a bit. Poker etiquette–which is dependent on who you are playing with–will be covered. Note: This class is ideally suited for people who want to form a poker group–so get your neighbors together and register!
Eric Goldstein has called Needham home for the past 30 years—and the poker table his second home for nearly 20. He’s played with the same group for two decades and still manages to walk away with their chips (and their respect) almost every time. Recently retired after nearly 40 years of running a software company, Eric is trading code for cards and sharing his love of poker with new players. He’s the proud father of three sons and a new grandson, and still considers bluffing an art form.
