Needham Community Education

Students will step into the studio to master the art of personalized adornment and textile design! We will begin by learning the fundamentals of beading and stringing to craft stunning jewelry—from casual or funky to sparkly or chic. Students will experiment with diverse bead styles and textures while mastering professional finishing techniques like using clasps, jump rings, and precision knotting. 

These core skills in color theory and design will serve as a foundation as the class transitions from wearable art to the tactile world of fabric and fiber arts, explore knitting, weaving, and hand sewing to transform flat sketches into three-dimensional masterpieces. From designing knitted coasters and intricate handwoven wall hangings to stitching custom fleece throw pillows, students will experiment with a wide range of materials. Whether perfecting a complex jewelry pattern or constructing a fiber-based work of art, students will have the tools and freedom to bring their most innovative ideas to life.

ACTIVE EXPLORATIONS: In addition to the outdoor movement and break times planned by each instructor, students participating in full-day Summer Explorations classes will enjoy a 40-minute active break each day led by highly qualified Needham Public School P.E. and Wellness Instructors. During this time, students will head to the gym or venture outside to get some fresh air and move their bodies. Whether it's a brisk walk around the grounds, high-energy running games and relay races, or exciting team sports and activities, this time is a great way to break up the day, get some energy out, and boost focus for the rest of class!
