Calling all young chefs! Join us for a delicious adventure into the world of cooking and baking. This class is a hands-on exploration of the kitchen where students learn the secrets behind creating tasty masterpieces—from savory meals to sweet treats. Students will master the art of crafting flavorful entrees and savory snacks before diving into the world of baking to whip up an array of delicious desserts and breads. Guided by an experienced Chef, students will experiment with new flavors and practice essential techniques, from chopping and sautéing to mixing and frosting. Beyond the recipes, chefs-in-training will gain valuable skills in kitchen safety, organization, and teamwork. Each day culminates in a tasting session where students enjoy the fruits of their labor. We’ll also compile our creations into a class recipe book to take home for future kitchen adventures!
Note: Specific dishes will vary each week based on ingredient availability and the Chef's selection; a variety of savory and sweet projects are guaranteed!
Allergy Alert: Students will be eating and/or working with food (including popular allergens such as wheat, dairy, soy, sesame, and eggs). No nuts are used in our projects; however, project materials may have been produced in a facility that also processes nuts. Please alert us to any food allergies when registering.
Instructor: Jamie Silverberg, Chef Manager of Newman Elementary
ACTIVE EXPLORATIONS: In addition to the outdoor movement and break times planned by each instructor, students participating in full-day Summer Explorations classes will enjoy a 40-minute active break each day led by highly qualified Needham Public School P.E. and Wellness Instructors. During this time, students will head to the gym or venture outside to get some fresh air and move their bodies. Whether it's a brisk walk around the grounds, high-energy running games and relay races, or exciting team sports and activities, this time is a great way to break up the day, get some energy out, and boost focus for the rest of class!
