Do you have an idea for a children’s picture book, or are you intrigued about writing one? Learn about the process and receive guidance from an award-winning children’s book author, Elizabeth Suneby. Elizabeth will cover the basics in the first four classes--including genre, shaping a clear concept, narrative arc, pacing, dialog, back matter, and resources for writers. Recent popular titles will be studied. Participants will also have the chance to write a picture book manuscript, and in the last two classes, give and receive constructive manuscript critiques.
Elizabeth Suneby has always loved to wrestle with words and distill information into a compelling story. After 20 years in marketing management, she now writes content for organizations, magazine articles, and books for children. She has had nine books published--from board books for babies to non-fiction for teens. Elizabeth’s latest book, No Room for a Pup!, is a fun, modern twist on a classic Yiddish folktale (It Could Always Be Worse) and a valuable reminder that there is always room for one more. Her first book, See What You Can Be: Explore Careers That Could Be For You!, was published by American Girl; and her two books in the CitizenKid series are multiple award winners. Iqbal and His Ingenious Idea: How a Science Project Helps One Family and the Planet is a great book for children who love science or care about the environment. Razia's Ray of Hope: One Girl's Dream of an Education is based on a true story of a girl in Afghanistan and how she convinces the men in her family to allow her to go to school.
