This class invites students to connect with the natural world through artistic expression and hands-on exploration. We'll venture outdoors, immersing ourselves in the vibrant details of our school's surroundings. From the delicate veins of a leaf to the complex structure of a wildflower, we'll learn to observe nature's intricate lines, shapes, colors, and textures. These observations, along with collected natural fragments, will inspire unique mixed-media art projects. Students will experiment with various materials, transforming their observations into compelling works of art. Imagine pressing leaves for Oshibana art, sketching flowers and the environment, creating a stop-motion chalk project, or collaborating on a found object art piece inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. We'll even capture the sun's magic with sun prints. Through these projects, we'll explore the magic of nature firsthand, fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural world and a passion for creative exploration.
Note: Even on cloudy days or during gentle rain, the outdoors provides endless opportunities for exploration, inspiration and creativity. Students should be prepared to spend some time outdoors during each class.
