Join Declan Battles of the Emerald Necklace Conservancy for a special guided tour of Boston's largest park. Franklin Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of American landscape architecture, in the late 19th century, as part of the Emerald Necklace park system that connects over a dozen neighborhoods in Boston and Brookline. Its 526 acres are filled with wooded trails, rolling hills and striking examples of historic Olmsted-era architecture. This walk will explore the Park's historic Playstead, sprawling Wilderness, the Schoolmaster Hill ruins and more!
Declan Battles is the Marketing and Communications Manager for the Emerald Necklace Conservancy, working to increase the public’s awareness, appreciation, use of and support for the Emerald Necklace and the work of the Conservancy through social media, special events, communications and media relations. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Suffolk University with a degree in Public Relations with a Minor in Media & Film. Bringing experience from prior work with the South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade, McNeil, Gray & Rice, and Suffolk University’s Dept. of Communications, Journalism & Media, he has been passionate about open space and its need in urban communities since childhood.
