Join us for a fun and practical sewing class where you'll learn how to make a stylish, flat travel pouch—perfect for storing small essentials like cosmetics, charging cords, toiletries, or travel documents. This slim, space-saving design easily fits into your carry-on, tote, or backpack, helping you stay organized on the go. In this beginner-friendly class, you'll be guided step-by-step through cutting fabric, adding a zipper, sewing crisp edges, and finishing your pouch with a neat, professional look. Walk away with a finished pouch and a new skill set you can use to make gifts or create a whole set for your travels! What to bring: 100% cotton fabric: 1/3 yard for exterior, and 1/3 yard for lining OR 2 fat quarters for exterior and 2 fat quarters for lining. (Note: You will need enough fabric to cut 2 exterior pieces and 2 lining @ 14 wide x 11 long, plus enough for a small handle). Basic zipper colors and stabilizer will be provided free of charge. If you wish to purchase a specific color for your zipper, please order a #4.5 NYLON zipper that is at least 15 inches long (suggested website, Wawak Sewing Supply). Limited to 6.
Debi Ramrath began sewing “back in the day”, inspired by her mother. When her children were young, she made costumes, curtains, placemats, and other household items. But as life grew busier, the sewing machine was tucked away—until the pandemic. With YouTube tutorials and online classes readily available, Debi dove back in, eager to learn new techniques. She sewed constantly—and hasn’t stopped since! What began as a hobby quickly became a passion. Deb finds great joy in creating useful and beautiful gifts like totes, purses, and home decor items for family and friends. A few years ago, she opened a successful 5-star Etsy shop, Sewing by the Pond. She also sells her work at the Tin Rabbit store in Needham and at local craft fairs. Teaching has always been one of Debi’s greatest joys. As a registered nurse, she taught health-related topics, and over the years has taught piano, religious education, ESL, and more. In 2022, she began teaching part-time at Sew Easy in Needham. She found guiding students in their sewing journey deeply rewarding. In January 2024, Debi took the next step by opening her own home sewing studio, where she offers lessons for adults from beginner to intermediate levels.
