Israeli Street Desserts

Adult Education / Cook and Taste -
Adult Fall 2025

The Israeli Street food scene is a unique blend of Jewish food traditions brought by immigrants from different countries and that of the local and surrounding countries. When Ashkenazi Jews immigrated to Israel in the 50s, they brought an array of pastries made with yeasted, buttery dough. Immigrants from North Africa brought desserts made with semolina flour and dates, and the local Arabic cuisine bakeries had their classics, such as phyllo dough pastries. This class celebrates all these sweet flavors with an introduction and prep techniques for the different types of dough. The menu will include chocolate babka, ma’amoul (date-filled cookies), knafeh, and baklava. Come ready for a hands-on experience (except for one dish that will be demonstrated) and leave with new skills and a box full of sweets to enjoy at home. Limited to 12.

Hila Krikov is the founder of Sweet Tahini, a food company that specializes in making tahini-based desserts. Born and raised in Israel, she became passionate about cooking Middle Eastern staple dishes after her family relocated thousands of miles from home to western Texas, and she felt homesick for her childhood's comforting flavors. In the cooking and dining experiences she hosts, Hila shares the region’s diverse culinary traditions alongside her home cooking skills, to inspire her guests to embrace these flavors in their kitchens.
