Needham Community Education

In this class, we'll immerse ourselves in the natural world that surrounds Eliot Elementary. We'll explore and care for the school's outdoor spaces, learn about local plants and animals, and discover the magic of nature through imaginative games and building projects. We'll spark creativity and curiosity by using natural materials to create nature obstacle courses, construct miniature animal shelters and terrariums, dissect pumpkins, plant seeds, and make other eco-friendly art. We will also learn about the importance of protecting our environment and discuss how to minimize our impact on the natural world.

Note: Even on cloudy days or during gentle rain, the outdoors provides endless opportunities for exploration, inspiration and play. Students should be prepared to spend some time outdoors during each class. On days that do not allow for outdoor time, the outdoors will be observed and enjoyed through windows, books, hands-on activities and our imaginations!
