Machine Woodworking 101 at Needham Furniture Makers

Adult Education / Create and Make -
Adult Fall 2026

This class will cover how to safely and effectively operate woodworking machine tools. We will turn rough lumber into a finished piece (a wine/liquor bottle gift box), through safe training, demonstration and guidance on the operations of a bandsaw, jointer, planer, table saw, and drill press. You will take away knowledge in basic wood technology (e.g. wood movement and grain direction), basic machine maintenance, and most standard machine operations. The instructor will also address any questions you may have along the way. Project materials (such as wood) are covered by the cost of the class. Note: Please bring your own safety gear (i.e., safety glasses and ear protection) and an accurate combination square.
