Clothing & Crafts for Dolls & Stuffies (WK1)Week 1: July 7-11 (rising grades 1-5)Become a doll and stuffy fashion designer! In this class we'll sketch, sew, and style amazing outfits and accessories for our favorite pals. From everyday wear to special occasion looks, we'll create a whole new wardrobe. And, of course, we'll finish the week off with a fabulous fashion show! Note: Students should bring their favorite 18-inch doll or stuffed animal to class each day. Through a variety of engaging projects, experiments, activities, and games, students will delve into the four STEM categories. We'll use a range of materials to build catapults, structures, buildings, parachutes, marble runs, and much more. Then, we'll put our creations to the test, comparing how different materials and construction techniques affect the final results. Allergy Alert: Children may be working with food (items could include popular allergens such as wheat, dairy, soy, sesame and eggs). No nuts are used in our projects, however, project materials may have been produced in a facility that also processes nuts. We'll spend the week whipping up tasty treats and amazing on-the-go snacks, experimenting with new ingredients and exciting flavors. Each day you'll take home your creations in trendy, reusable mason jars. By the end of the week, you'll have your own personalized "Snack Attack" recipe book. Superhero Squad! (WK1)Week 1: July 7-11 (rising grades 1-5)Learn all about superheroes—both imagined and real. We will sharpen our conversation skills as we discuss and ‘define’ who is a superhero in our imaginations, our communities, and our world. Exploring imagined vs. real super powers and participating in superhero-themed games and activities will be a way to practice your super-moves and super-abilities. We will learn how to fold paper into cells to create a storyboard, draw our own comics, and turn recycled objects into shields, swords, capes, or masks. The Great OutdoorsWeek 1: July 7-11 (rising grades 1-5)PopularIn this class, we'll immerse ourselves in the natural world that surrounds the Sunita Williams school. We will explore and care for the school's outdoor garden, learn about and celebrate local plants and animals, and discover the magic of nature through imaginative games and building projects. From creating nature obstacle courses and building forts in the woods to constructing miniature animal shelters and designing eco-friendly art, we'll use natural materials to spark creativity and inspire collaborative play. We'll also learn about the importance of protecting our environment and discover how to minimize our impact on the natural world. Through these hands-on adventures, we will cultivate a deep appreciation for the natural world and a love for exploration and discovery. Note: Even on cloudy days or during gentle rain, the outdoors provides endless opportunities for exploration, inspiration and play.
