  • 2D + 3D Art Studio : Week 1 Grades 1-2

    Come experience a broad range of materials and techniques for creating both 2D and 3D art! Students will draw, paint, sculpt and build as they develop new ways of creating from observation, through exploration, and in a collaborative setting. For additional inspiration, we will explore prominent fine art artists and illustrators that will help inspire our creative process. Students will explore a variety of mediums, use their imagination and create multiple pieces of art throughout the week.

  • 3D Sculpture & Ceramics (two-week class): Gr. 6–9, Wks 3-4

    Come and have fun with clay and other 3D materials. In the morning, learn about clay techniques and build a variety of different ceramics projects. In the afternoon, experiment with recycled art projects- magazine forms, cardboard masks, paper quilling, tube sculpture, jewelry, book art, and More. Or students may elect to continue creating with clay in an open studio format Returning students welcome! Students who joined us for Ceramics in previous years will be given the opportunity to work on independent projects and/or reinvent class projects. Note: Ceramics & Sculpture is a two week class. Students enrolled in this class will participate during both Week 3 & Week 4.

Note: Ceramics & Sculpture is a two week class. Students enrolled in this class will participate during both Week 1 (July 5–8) and Week 2 (July 10–14) of Summer Explorations.
  • All Things Dinosaur! : Week 1 Grades 1-4

    Calling all dinosaur experts and curious explorers! If you are a dinosaur fan or would love to learn more about these remarkable creatures, this class is for you. Students will bring their knowledge and curiosities to life as they become paleontologists. Students will venture outdoors looking for signs of dinosaur life, dig up fossils, morph into dinosaurs themselves, create dinosaur inspired art and share all the facts that make dinosaurs so interesting and mysterious!
  • Animal Lovers Unite : Week 4 Grades 1-4

    Are you an animal lover? Do you know everything there is to know about sea creatures, amphibians, jungle cats or birds of prey? Do you find yourself stopping to pet every dog, snuggle every kitten or examine every insect? If so, this class is for you! Students will spend the week sharing all the things they love about the magical and mysterious Animal Kingdom. Through art activities, outdoor exploration, theatrical experiences and in-depth conversations, our admiration for the creatures that bring us such joy will grow!
  • Art Explorations : Week 1 Grades 3-5

    Art Explorations is a fun-filled, art-tastic opportunity for young artists—and engineers—to explore a variety of materials, tools, and techniques. Students will create an amazing array of two- and three-dimensional artworks fueled by their own imaginations! Example projects may include (but are not limited to): working with clay, creating pop-up books and kaleidoscopes, making prints with rollers, ink, and sunlight, painting on paper and 3D surfaces, building plaster sculptures, making simple weavings, sewing soft sculptures, and assembling collages and puppets.

    Both beginner and experienced artists will enjoy this class designed for students who want to create excellent art pieces they will be proud to hang on a wall or give as a gift. Join us to explore famous artist’s techniques and create in similar styles adding your own spin. Explore nature abstracts inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe, stained-glass look-alike art inspired by Tiffany and Frank Lloyd Wright, splatter art abstracts inspired by Jackson Pollock and more! Learn about watercolor painting techniques inspired by John Singer Sargeant’s portraits, Paul Klee’s abstract art and cartoonist Bill Watterson (author and illustrator of the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes). This isn't fridge art. This is “frame it in the front hall” art! All are welcome. No previous art experience required. Note: Students are encouraged to bring a smock or old shirt to class each day or to wear clothes they don't mind getting dirty. For our Pollock-inspired project we will literally THROW the paint so please dress accordingly.! Repeat students welcome. Returning students are encouraged to explore new muses and inspiration for their week’s creations.

    Join us for a fun and engaging class where students get excited about writing while incorporating creativity and illustration! We will work both individually and collaboratively as we learn the recipe for developing a comic/graphic novel. Create characters using character anchor charts, adjectives and descriptive language. Use graphic organizer worksheets to help craft comics and graphic novels. Explore various illustration styles using “How to Draw” worksheets, as well as freehand techniques.   • Computer Aided Manufacturing- The World of 3D Printer and Laser Cutters: Half Day, Gr. 7-9, Wk1

    Students will embark on a creative journey into the world of digital design and fabrication. Through hands-on activities and projects, students will learn how to use cutting-edge technology to bring their ideas to life, creating designs that can be 3D printed and/or laser cut. Not only will students gain valuable technical skills, but they will also have the opportunity to take home the products they design and manufacture. Course Objectives: Introduction to Digital Design: Students will learn the fundamentals of digital design using user-friendly software tools. They will explore concepts such as shapes, dimensions, and patterns, gaining an understanding of how to create designs for 3D printing and laser cutting. 3D Printing Basics: Students will be introduced to the principles of 3D printing, including how it works & common materials used. Laser Cutting Fundamentals: Students will explore the capabilities of laser cutting technology, including the materials that can be used, the types of cuts and engravings that can be achieved, and safety considerations when operating laser cutters.     If you enjoy Magic The Gathering and/or Yahtzee, you will LOVE Dice Throne, which combines the best of both games into one. Dice Throne is an action-packed dice and card game combo where you choose a hero, shuffle their deck, upgrade your abilities, roll some dice, play some cards, and maybe even activate your Ultimate Ability. Once you've mastered the basics of Dice Throne, join up with your buddies and take on Dice Throne Adventures, a cooperative campaign-style board game that uses the basic rules of Dice Throne, but requires you and your teammates to work together against the game itself. Adding elements of Dungeons and Dragons into the game, your team will crawl through several dungeons fighting minions and finding loot along the way. Eventually, your team will find the Boss Portal, fight other Fallen Heroes, and even the Mad King himself. Does your team have what it takes?
